The company, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Siemens, has committed to a plan to develop the energy source for the islands. Beverly recently gave a presentation to the Dept of Information on the type of turbines the company would use to generate geothermal at Nevis 3 in Hamilton and Nevis 1 at Spring Hill. He explained that the minimum size of the turbines expected to be used at Hamilton was 5.8 megawatts and at Nevis 1 three miles away, 5.8 megawatts and possibly up to two 20 megawatts. He said the first unit could be upgraded
?It is possible that the first unit will be later a few years down the road upgraded to 10 megawatts so that the first site would have a total capacity of 50 mega watts which is more than enough for both Nevis and St. Kitts. It would also handle years of growth for both islands,? he said.
