Chambalay Just Hours Away

The sound of the iron band is already coming over the hill and the glare from the Chambalay is visible from afar, all that is needed now, is for you to join in the fun that this year's Chambalay festivities will bring.
Three events spread over this upcoming weekend will lead all roads to Sandy Point, where the community group SPIRIT is set to stage one of its biggest community events.
That Saturday will be a long day, because from as early as 6:30 P.M., the steel pan and the traditional iron band will start cranking up, on the open grounds at Cleverly Hill. All the grandmothers with their pans, the teens and their conch shell horns, and their parents with their steel rims, will join the colorfully clad Chagredandies mocko jumbies, and the first-ever Chambalay Iron band troupe. They will march through the streets of Sandy Point in an explosion of music and color, and this year's street jam promises to be bigger and better than the last! The troupe packages, including a free T-shirt, specially-made torch and flashing necklace, have been flying off the shelves, and we are fast approaching the last days when you'd be able to get yours!
All eyes are glued to the Sunday's (Nov. 6) event: Kart Part Olympics, an Olympic-style day of events celebrating local traditional games like pitching, skipping, wheel barrow races and even some barefoot races. Major cycling and marathon events will span the length of Sandy Point and will see fierce competition from dozens of participants.
It's a full two days of music, food and fun and there is something for everyone in the family.
