Started in 2009, the activity was designed to inject some measure of excitement into the children?s regular routine while providing an outlet for them to visibly express the characters and individuals they have taken a liking to.
Police officers, ballerinas, a bumble bee, nurses, princesses, fairies, preachers, teachers, doctors, a footballer, a cheerleader, a basketball player, and popular cartoon characters Scooby Doo and Buzz Lightyear were some of the costumes sported by the eager pre-schoolers.
Canecia Warner, teacher at the pre-school,explained, rather than wearing the usual Friday garb (T-shirt and jeans) each child was required to wear some sort of fun and creative costume, which would stimulate discussions amongst them.
?The children came out in their colorful costumes. Also, the parents really went out of their way to prepare their children for the day. Some costumes were really creative? In some cases, it seems like the parents were more excited about the activity than their children.
She further explained that there were initial plans of having a modeling/entertainment section where each child would have had an opportunity to hit center stage and display his or her costume.
