Caribbean Film Showcase Planned for St Kitts May 9

In coordination with the Community Cohesion Foundatio and the Ministry of Culture of St Kitts & Nevis, the forum will stimulate debate and dialogue about the realities and perspectives of production, exhibition and distribution of Caribbean cinema. The focus will be on the role of the Caribbean Diaspora in regional audiovisual production.
According to Wikipedia, the term "diaspora" has been historically applied in particular to the descendants of the Africans who were enslaved and shipped to the Americas by way of the Atlantic slave trade, with the largest population in Brazil (see Afro-Brazilian). In modern times, it is also applied to Africans who have emigrated from the continent in order to seek education, employment and better living for themselves and their children.
Main discussion topics for the May forum include:
1. Necessary exchange between the creators in the Diaspora and the cinematographic and audiovisual community of their countries. Diaspora filmmakers? possible roles for the purpose of boosting the Caribbean cinematography development.
2. The Diaspora and its histories in the cinema.
3. The cinema and the audiovisual within the identity construction of Diaspora?s children and adolescents.
4. The Caribbean woman, author and character in our cinema.
5. Updating of collaboration programs and mechanisms.
6. Development of co-productions.
