The annual national carnival celebrations on ST Kitts and Nevis will be held between December 18, 2009 - January 2, 2010. The two-week event brings excitement and creativity to the islands, from its opening ceremony to the highly-acclaimed Boxing day celebrations, to the Grand New Year?s Day Parade, and ending in the street party Jump Up, known by locals as ?Last Lap?.
One of the highlights is the J?Ouvert Jam on Boxing Day, when local soca bands hit the road in the early hours of the morning and circle the major roads in Basseterre. Thousands of spectators line the route. The music and dance are replaced at midday by dozens of masquerades and other traditional folklore dancers.
The unusual tradition of simultaneously celebrating Christmas and Carnival makes St. Kitts a special Caribbean island to visit that time of year. Read more at ZIZOnline. Schedule your trip now, and leave time to visit our Coldwell Banker office and talk about real estate opportunities.
