Frigate Bay in St Kitts

Frigate Bay, on the island of St Kitts, is a stretch of sand and blue water on the Southeast coast. Just a few years ago, only a couple of beach bars occupied "the strip." Then the government-run Frigate Bay Beach Corp. decided to set some rules about future development. Spaces were allotted for new vendors, and only open-air structures were permitted. No brick buildings or foundations were allowed.
Now about a dozen clapboard shacks line the ribbon of sand, from Buddies Beach Hut, with its grass-covered roof and Hip Hop tunes at one end, to Shiggidy Shack where you can sign up for snorkelling tours or fishing charters at the other end.
Under construction is the multi-million dollar Ocean?s Edge development. ?All this is happening at a time when there is a global economic down turn there must be something tremendous about this place that can influence an investor to put over a million US dollars into a villa of this kind,? said Prime Minister Douglas at the end of a tour of the construction site on and overlooking Cable Beach in Frigate Bay.
The revised overall Master Plan will see the construction of 188 condominium units including 74 one-two-and three bedroom Beach Front Apartments and 48 two and three bed-room poolside, beachside and hillside Apartments; a 120-seat restaurant, a 150-seat conference suite; beach club house and restaurant, four swimming pools, fitness center, spa and Arrivals/Reception Hall.
The Ocean Edge is a joint venture of local and foreign investors.
